On a day off, there is no clock pushing Mio toward the kitchen. While out shopping, she comes across a riverside path lined with cherry blossoms. With nowhere she needs to be next, she slows down, joins the spring crowd for a while, and lets an ordinary errand turn into an unplanned afternoon beneath the blossoms.
休日には、厨房へ急ぐ時間も、次の予定を気にする必要もない。
買い物へ出かけた澪は、川沿いに続く桜並木を見つける。
このあと急いで向かう場所もない。少しだけ足を止めるつもりが、
いつの間にか春を楽しむ人たちの中で、予定になかった午後をゆっくり過ごしていく。
Today, there is time to stop. 今日は、立ち止まってもいい。
It was supposed to be an ordinary day off.
A little shopping.
A few things to pick up.
Nothing that needed a schedule.
On the way, Mio reached a river.
Cherry trees stretched along the bank, their branches leaning over the path in pale layers of pink.
She had seen cherry blossoms on workdays before.
Through a train window.
Beside a station.
Along a street she crossed quickly on the way to work.
Usually, there was only enough time to notice them.
Today was different.
There was no shift waiting.
No kitchen clock to check.
No reason to hurry through the season.
So she turned toward the river.
Families had spread small sheets beneath the trees.
Groups of friends laughed over food and drinks.
Couples walked slowly along the water, occasionally stopping for photographs.
Everyone seemed to be spending the same spring afternoon in a different way.
Mio did not come prepared for hanami.
She had no picnic basket.
No reserved place.
No plan to stay.
That made it easier.
She bought a drink nearby, walked beneath the blossoms, and found a quiet place where she could see both the river and the trees.
Petals occasionally lifted in the breeze and crossed the path.
The river carried the afternoon light.
Voices blended together in the distance.
Somewhere, a child laughed as petals fell around them.
Mio stayed longer than she expected.
Not because anything special happened, but because nothing was asking her to leave.
For once, spring was not something she passed on the way somewhere else.
She had time to be inside it.
物語
その日は、特別な予定のない休日だった。
少し買い物をして、
必要なものをいくつか買う。
時間を決めて動くほどの予定ではない。
その途中で、澪は川沿いへ出た。
川岸には桜並木が続き、 淡い桜色の枝が道の上まで重なるように伸びている。
仕事の日にも、桜を見たことは何度もあった。
電車の窓から。
駅の近くで。
出勤途中に急いで通り過ぎる道で。
いつもなら、気づくだけで終わる。
けれど今日は違った。
待っているシフトはない。
厨房の時計を気にする必要もない。
春の景色を急いで通り過ぎる理由もない。
澪は、そのまま川の方へ歩いていった。
木の下にはシートを広げた家族連れ。
食べ物や飲み物を囲んで笑う仲間たち。
水辺をゆっくり歩き、ときどき写真を撮る恋人たち。
同じ春の午後を、それぞれが違う過ごし方で楽しんでいる。
澪は花見の準備をしてきたわけではなかった。
お弁当もない。
場所取りもしていない。
長くいるつもりすらなかった。
だからこそ、気楽だった。
近くで飲み物を買い、 桜の下を歩き、 川と桜の両方が見える場所で少し足を止める。
風が吹くたび、ときどき花びらが道を横切っていく。
川面には午後の光。
少し離れたところから聞こえる話し声。
舞う花びらの中で笑う子どもの声。
澪は、思っていたより長くそこにいた。
何か特別なことが起きたからではない。
ただ、急いで立ち去る理由がなかったからだ。
いつもは、どこかへ向かう途中に通り過ぎていた春。
今日は、その中にゆっくりいることができた。

The same spring feels different when there is nowhere to rush. 同じ春でも、急ぐ必要がない日は少し違って見える。
This HOLIDAY work is about time as much as it is about cherry blossoms.
On a workday, a seasonal view can become only a brief impression: something noticed through a train window or while walking toward the next obligation.
A day off changes that relationship.
Mio has time to take an unnecessary turn, stay longer than planned, watch other people enjoying the season, and allow an ordinary shopping trip to become part of the day itself.
The families, friends, and couples along the river are not background decoration. They give the scene its sense of a shared season — many different lives briefly gathered beneath the same blossoms.
HOLIDAY is where the pace of AFTER SHIFT slows down most clearly. Nothing needs to transform into fantasy. The ordinary world is already enough when there is finally time to look at it.

このHOLIDAY作品で描きたいのは、桜そのものと同じくらい「時間」です。
仕事の日なら、季節の景色はほんの短い印象で終わることがあります。
電車の窓から見えた桜。
次の予定へ向かう途中で目に入った桜。
きれいだと思っても、そのまま通り過ぎていく。
休日になると、その景色との距離が変わります。
必要のない寄り道をして、
思っていたより長くそこにいて、
周りの人たちが春を楽しむ様子を眺めながら、
単なる買い物の一日を、そのまま休日の時間として味わうことができる。
川沿いにいる家族連れ、仲間同士、恋人たちは、単なる背景ではありません。
それぞれ違う暮らしを持つ人たちが、同じ桜の季節の中に一時的に集まっている。
その空気が、この作品の春らしさを作っています。
