A day’s small impressions of spring return in her sleep, quietly transforming the familiar hotel kitchen into a landscape of cherry blossoms, drifting petals, pale blue sky and distant mountains.
What the day carried into sleep.
During the day, spring had appeared only in fragments.
Cherry blossoms glimpsed on the way to work.
Seasonal ingredients beginning to appear on the menu.
A passing conversation about the warmer days ahead.
None of them seemed especially important at the time.
They were simply small pieces of the day.
But after the last service was over and Mio finally fell asleep, those scattered impressions began to return.
The kitchen appeared first.
The same stainless-steel counters.
The same cooking equipment.
The same reflective floor she had crossed countless times during work.
And yet, something was different.
Soft pink light began to settle across the metal surfaces.
The steam rising through the kitchen slowly became indistinguishable from spring haze.
Then cherry blossoms appeared beyond the counters.
Petals drifted through the warm air.
The walls seemed to open toward a pale blue sky and distant mountains.
The kitchen had not disappeared.
Spring had simply entered it.
Mio, too, seemed to have crossed into the dream without completely leaving the moment in which she had fallen asleep.
Reality was still there.
Only its boundaries had begun to loosen.
What remained was neither the kitchen from her working day nor a real spring landscape.
It was a place created from both — a quiet reconstruction of everything she had carried with her into the night.
Fragments of the same dream.
Different moments from the same dream.
The same place, seen through shifting light, movement, and memory.
The dream does not replace reality.
It rearranges it.
The idea behind this work is not simply to place cherry blossoms inside a kitchen.
The kitchen represents the part of the day that remains strongest in Mio’s memory: the place where she worked, moved, concentrated and spent most of her waking hours.
Spring enters from somewhere quieter.
A view during her commute.
Seasonal food.
The changing temperature.
A conversation she may barely remember.
In the dream, those different memories no longer remain separate.
Hard stainless steel reflects soft spring colors.
Kitchen steam becomes atmospheric haze.
A professional workplace opens naturally into a Japanese landscape.
The dream does not replace reality.
It rearranges it.
